Body Image & Eating Disorders

In my work with youth and young adults, weight and body image comes up often as it does with adults.  I have a holistic approach to well-being and weight loss that goes beyond meal plans and calorie counting to apply mindfulness to how you live as well as to what you eat.  I use mindfulness-based methods focusing on the mental barriers that can keep us from setting and achieving our goals.  I will help you develop mindful eating habits, self-compassion, and a greater understanding of what it means to live a valued life with proven effective methods.

Multicultural Issues & Transitions

Going to school and growing up in a different environment from your familial and cultural background can be a struggle for young people. At times you can feel conflicted, perhaps smothered at home or pressured by your peers. Sometimes, you just can’t keep up with all the new societal rules and manners outside your home, and learning in a new language can set you behind.  I take a client centered sensitive approach to helping you with multicultural transitional issues.

I also have an Islamic background and can offer counseling services with an open mind. I am culturally sensitive, fluent in Bengali, Hindi, Urdu and Spanish, and offer a highly personalized approach to meet my client’s individual needs. more…

Treatment Modalities

The treatment modality utilized is coordinated according to your needs. However, most approaches are solution focused as I believe in finding a path to healthy independent clients.

In individual therapy I use Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).

For individuals dealing with eating disorders as well as groups Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is used.

Child Play Therapy and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is employed with younger clients.

I also use more eclectic approaches like Walk & Talk Therapy for eager clients.
